Collaboration Agreement with the Fundo Nacional de Desenvolvimento Sustentàvel of Mozambique
Carbonsink and the Fundo Nacional de Desenvolvimento Sustentàvel (FNDS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding under the Zimbabwe Integrated Landscape Management Programme (ZILMP) and the REDD Mozambique programme funded by the "Forest Carbon Partnership Facility" of the World Bank.
The purpose of the cooperation is to develop greenhouse gas mitigation activities caused by land deforestation and degradation in Zambezia. CarbonSink is already present in the area with a pilot project to distribute "Efficient Stoves" in the buffer area of the Gilè National Reserve and in the urban area of Pebane. The collaboration between CarbonSink and FNDS aims to extend the distribution of efficient wood and coal stoves in the context of the REDD+ programme. In fact, the use of efficient stoves, reducing biomass consumption, reduces pressure on forests and the resulting emissions due to unsuitable wood harvesting and coal production. The ultimate goal is to create a local demand for efficient cooking technologies in order to stabilise greenhouse gas emissions caused by deforestation and resulting biodiversity loss. Additional project benefits include improving the health of families involved by reducing toxic fumes, reducing time and money resources dedicated to the purchase of biomass as well as creating local markets and new job opportunities.
